April 22 is Earth Day. What better day to begin the massive reuse and recylcing program--the Trash to Treasure Sale! Starting April 22, the dorms of Wayne State College will each have boxes for usable, unwanted items to be donated to the Trash to Treasure Sale.

T2T--What is it?

The concept of Trash to Treasure is based on the fact that when students leave at the end of the school year, they often discover they've accumulated a lot of "stuff" they don't want. In the rush to move out, much of this is simply thrown away, even if it is still pefectly usuable. To eliminate waste, we've impletmented Trash to Treasure collection, so that students can donate their usuable items.

What happens to my stuff?

Collected items are sorted. Non-perishable food is donated to the Wayne Food Pantry. Coats and jackets may be given to the Wayne Coat Closet. Other items may be donated to other charitable organizations depending on what is received. But the majority of the stuff that is collected will be sold on treasure sales throughout the summer and next fall, at affordable prices to benefit the community. Proceeds from these sales will be used for CrossPoint Campus Ministry mission trips, and programming that is open to all WSC students.

Is there anything I shouldn't give?

Please don't donate perishable food items (anything that requires refrigeration), or items that are broken, moldy, leaking, etc. Bottom line: if you can't imagine anyone wanting it, we probably don't want it either. We also don't want any items that are dangerous or illegal; and of course, the items you donate must be yours to give away--you can't give us other people's stuff (that's called stealing, and it's illegal).

What if my stuff is too big for the box?

For larger items or large quantities of items, please call 833-8529 (this is a local call) to arrange for the items to be picked up or dropped off at CrossPoint Campus Ministry (1006 Main Street). Also, if you notice one of the donation boxes is full, please call us to let us know, and we will come get it. We will try to collect all items in a timely manner, but of course, we can't always predict when people will be making donations.

Thank you all for supporting T2T!
